How far does the children's voice reach? What does it achieve? And do children and adults mean the same thing when they talk about things like ‘involvement’, ‘co-determination’, ‘participation’, ‘attendance’ and ‘involvement’? These questions are the focus of this study on the participation of children and adolescents in Switzerland, which was conducted from March 2013 to August 2014 by the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Zurich and commissioned by UNICEF Switzerland.
The study shows that there have been remarkable developments in the participation of children and adolescents over the last ten years. However, there are also weaknesses and gaps. While the participation of children and adolescents within the family is relatively advanced, it lags behind in the school environment and at community level.
