A better world for every child. That is the vision of the United Nations Children’s Fund. UNICEF has been working to achieve this since it was established in 1946.
UNICEF’s mission is to make children’s rights a reality for every child, regardless of their skin color, religion or origin. The guiding principles for our global work are laid down in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
From rapid emergency response to long-term reconstruction, UNICEF helps girls and boys all over the world to grow up healthy and safe and develop to their full potential. Because every child deserves a childhood.
UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein was founded as an association in 1959. We have been working with you ever since to improve the world for children.
Our tasks
UNICEF is active in over 190 countries worldwide. With effective programs and political influence, UNICEF achieves sustainable progress for children, and has been doing so for 75 years.
At the same time, with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the international community has committed itself to shaping a fairer world and a future worth living for all people. At the heart of the 2030 Agenda are 17 goals, from ending poverty to effective climate protection (see our fact sheet for more information). On the path to sustainable development, no one, including children, should be left behind. We can only achieve this if we also and above all improve children’s living conditions. At UNICEF, we advocate for children’s rights around the world, and our project work on the ground contributes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
