In Malawi, a quality school education is not something to be taken for granted. More than half of learners cannot read properly, and only a small proportion of children complete secondary-level schooling. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of training for teaching staff. UNICEF’s support makes the ongoing training of teachers in Malawi possible.

Contaminated drinking water is part of everyday life for many children in Malawi. Because it makes them ill, they are often too weak to attend school. UNICEF is installing solar pumps that reach groundwater that is deeper and thus cleaner.

In many areas of Brazil, children cannot exercise their right to an education – for various reasons. Children in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein did something to change that by collecting money during the 2021 Star Weeks.

During the 2018 Star Weeks campaign, children in Switzerland and Liechtenstein collected money to provide schools in El Alto, Bolivia, with safe drinking water and functioning latrines.

In Armenia, an estimated 93,000 girls will be missing by 2060: girls who were not allowed to be born because their parents wanted to have a son instead.

With financial support from UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the government and UNICEF Kyrgyzstan have established the key foundations for a national program to combat malnutrition in infants.

Almost 30,000 Burundian children live in the Mahama refugee camp in Rwanda. UNICEF ensures that these girls and boys can have a childhood and a future in spite of the difficult conditions.
