Three out of four children in the world have no access to basic social welfare services. Children living in poor countries and conflict areas often suffer from poverty, malnutrition and a lack of healthcare. The lack of social welfare services forces families to turn to survival strategies, such as withdrawing their children from school and sending them to work, which endanger their children’s development and their future.

Children from disadvantaged families often have no access to educational opportunities or healthcare because their parents lack the means to pay for these services. Their situation is worsened by crises, armed conflicts and natural disasters. Girls and children with disabilities are especially affected as they often face exclusion from social welfare services. Strong social protection can break the cycle and allow children the chance for a better future.
