A new milestone in the history of the fourteen-year partnership: The MSC Foundation has raised $14 million to date to help UNICEF improve the lives of children around the world.
The MSC Foundation has helped UNICEF to support a range of global programmes, focusing on community support, education, and youth engagement. To date, MSC has raised $14 million to help UNICEF improve the lives of children around the world.
Our collaborative efforts in Malawi have resulted in a significant reduction in the rates of severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Across Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia and Malawi, health interventions have played a key role in providing life-saving support to more than 115,600 children.
Since 2019, the MSC Foundation has been supporting the innovative «Plastic Waste to Classrooms» programme in Côte d'Ivoire. The initiative empowers women waste collectors by training them to recycle plastic waste into innovative bricks. The bricks are used to build environmentally friendly, modern classrooms. Last year, the initiative enabled an additional 5,600 children to attend school and 112 classrooms were built using plastic bricks made of collected plastic waste.
MSC Foundation funding is also helping to localise the global Yoma initiative in Côte d'Ivoire. The digital platform is tailored to help young people acquire knowledge and skills to improve their employment prospects in the green and blue economies. To date, more than 400 young people have been trained in areas such as business management, job search techniques, and financial literacy.
“I would like to thank the MSC Foundation for its incredible support over the past 14 years. It's heartwarming to see that over the past years, the Foundation's support for UNICEF has gone beyond fundraising to raising awareness and visibility of UNICEF's work,” said Bettina Junker, Executive Director UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein. “Recently, the MSC Foundation has become a trusted partner for innovation in Côte d'Ivoire. Together we are catalysing groundbreaking programmes that support children's education and increase employment opportunities for young people. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership for many years to come.”
